Chapter Nine

THEY ARRIVED BACK AT the stables hours later and Mitchell couldn’t catch his breath. He’d just spent the most wonderful morning with the silver-tongued city boy, laughing and joking as they rode around the station.

There were few places in the world that Mitchell felt more at home than on the back of a horse. He was relaxed, at ease and unfortunately, completely open to the attraction of one Jayden Donner.

Jay was smart. Knew lots about just about everything. He asked intelligent questions and soaked in everything Mitchell had to say. It was bloody frustrating, especially because Jay was simply magnificent to watch. Hesitant at first on his horse, then seeing his confidence in riding grow and build was amazing. The pleasure on his face, the light of awe in his eyes. It reminded Mitchell of how he’d felt the first time he’d been on a horse and that similarity made a lump lodge in his throat. He didn’t want to think about how human and beautiful his would-be-lover was.

He slid to the ground with a sigh, the earth beneath his feet solid and stable. He moved hypnotically around the horse, removing the bridle and bit, then taking off the saddle.

It was a heavy but comfortable weight in his arms as he carried it over to the wooden fence and laid the saddle across it. The leather was soft and worn, smelling of shine and sweat.

“Come on, boy.” Mitchell guided the horse into his stall and shut the door, then moved over to Jay’s horse and led her into a nearby empty stall. He wasn’t sure where she lived, but she needed brushing down and putting away somewhere safe.

“Hey, Mitchell, come out here for a minute,” Jay called and Mitchell bit his lip, unable to stop the thrill of excitement racing through him as he took the steps forward that were needed to bring him face to face with the city boy again.

“Yeah?” he asked, stepping out of the stall and turning around to close the door.

“Mitchell.” Jay’s strong arms came around him, pressing his arms down and into his sides while Jay’s lips touched his ear. “I want you.”

Fuck. I want you, too.

Heat spread through Mitchell’s entire body, silencing any reservations or thoughts. He moaned and pressed his arse back, a move he knew was an unspoken invitation that he didn’t want to take back.

Jay growled in his ear and pushed his pelvis forward, his hard cock pressing into Mitchell’s butt.

“Come on.” Mitchell staggered forward, breaking out of the ring of Jay’s arms and moving further into the stables.

The smell of the hay and horses was comforting to him, yet his heart set a galloping pace. Where would be the best place to do this?

“Tell me you came prepared.” He turned and spoke directly to Jay, not sure which answer he actually wanted. If Jay had brought what they needed, then he’d be comfortable and safe. But that also meant that Jay thought he was easy.
